Mr. Trump, like a whiny child, is probably headed for his next Twitter rant after Congress failed to give him exactly what he wants. Lawmakers met in Washington today to finalize a $1.3 trillion dollar spending package. However, it looks like the president is not going to build a massive border wall anytime soon. In fact, if their proposed package isn’t signed by Trump, the government is likely to shut down.
The White House’s main demand regarding the bill was that it provide $1.6 billion in funding for border security. However, the legislation falls well below Trump’s demands. Perhaps, one of the most hilarious stipulations is that the bill would only fund 33 miles of new border fencing. According to The Hill:
‘It appears the legislation will fall well-short of Trump’s demands, but could include $641 million for 33 miles of new border fencing. It would also include $1.296 billion in funding new border technology. The funding would only be used for levees and fences, not a concrete wall, according to the source familiar with the discussions.’
Yes, that’s correct. Trump’s wall is literally going nowhere and no, Mexico is not going to pay for it either.
The Hill reported:
‘It would add $2.8 billion in funding to address the opioid epidemic, directed both at substance abuse programs and National Institutes of Health research, plus some $687 million in new funding to secure U.S. elections and combat Russian cyberattacks.’
Yesterday, Trump spoke about his new plan to combat the opioid epidemic, but it sounds like he won’t be doing with a border wall now.

According to The Hill:
‘Negotiators are edging closer on several other contentious issues, the source said. They have agreed the bill will not include new provisions aimed at Planned Parenthood or action on “sanctuary cities,” which do not cooperate with federal immigration authorities.’
