Republican Iowa Senate Majority Leader Bill Dix has stepped down amid controversy after a video was released showing the married Senator on a date with a lobbyist. The pair can be seen kissing in the video.
Iowa Starting Line obtained and then published the video which shows Senate Majority Leader Bill Dix engaging in what appears to be a date with an unnamed Statehouse lobbyist. The pair can be seen snuggling up at a Des Moines, Iowa bar.
Recently Senator Dix released a statement defending his decision not to share information about Senate Republican sexual harassment trial and settlement, insisting that treating the offenders was the best course of action, as opposed to the offenders being outed publicly.
Now, just months later, Sen. Dix has been caught cheating on his wife publicly, with much younger lobbyist. Perhaps the reason Dix was so hesitant to share the information regarding his party’s sexual misadventures is because he knew full well that he’d be putting himself at risk for exposure.
Monday, the GOP senator stepped down from his position. Senate President Jack Whitver announced Dix’s resignation in a statement, saying:
‘Effective at 2pm today Bill Dix resigned his position as Majority Leader and State Senator. I believe he made the right decision for himself and for his district, but most importantly, I believe he made the decision in the best interest of his family. Senate Republicans will continue to mov the policies Iowans elected us to pursue. After discussion with the Republican Caucus this afternoon, an election to fill the position of Iowa Senate Majority Leader will be held on Wednesday, Mark 14, 2018.’

Governor Kim Reynolds of Iowa, when asked said:
‘Iowans hold their elected officials to a high standard. They expect us to lead, and I expect to lead. But I want to know the facts. I’m extremely disappointed with what I’m hearing, but until I have an opportunity to hear his story I’m not going to comment.’

Sen. David Johnson of Iowa gave a blunt response to the video:
‘If there is truth to this, he needs to resign immediately as majority leader. We don’t need this ongoing story about where the Senate Republican leadership is on these issues dealing with women.’

This is hardly the first controversy that now-former Senator Bill Dix was a part of. During a news conference he gave in mid-November of last year, Dix stated that by not releasing information regarding the $1.75 million sexual harassment settlement against the state he was “doing the right thing.” Dix was covering up for his pals by denying transparency.
Currently, there is no word where Bill Dix will go following his resignation from the Senate.
