Remember when “President” Donald Trump refused to allow Democrats to release their countermemo regarding surveillance abuse? In a shocking move that will surely anger Trump, they released the memo Saturday afternoon.
After requiring redactions, Democrats worked with the FBI and the Justice Department and released it as a counter to the Republicans memo. Democrats argued over the redactions with the FBI and the DOJ. According to the New York Times:
‘Democrats have insisted that Mr. Trump’s deference to national security concerns in the case was hypocritical and politically motivated. Just a week before blocking their memo’s release, the president had ignored similar objections from the Justice Department and the FBI to declassify the contents of a rival Republican memo, which was based on the same underlying documents.’
Remember, the Republican memo was touted to vindicate Trump entirely regarding accusations of collusion (it did not).
Rep. Adam Schiff commented:
‘Our extensive review of the initial FISA application and three subsequent renewals failed to uncover any evidence of illegal, unethical or unprofessional behavior by law enforcement and instead revealed that both the FBI and DOJ made extensive showings to justify all four requests.’
Remember, the Republican memo made serious allegations against law enforcement by accusing them of colluding with the DNC and Hillary Clinton presidential campaign and using the information gathered by them to secure FISA warrants. Specifically, they accused the FBI of hiding this from the courts who issue FISA warrants.
Democrats, of course, say they provided that information.
The White House has yet to comment; however, we expect a raging tweet from Trump at any time.
