A Trump-loving Alabama cop is out of the job this week after he shared hideously racist Michelle Obama memes to his Facebook page.
Talladega, Alabama’s own Joel Husk shared, among other, not publicly disclosed items, a meme from a Facebook group called “Donald Trump, The Political Movement” which features a picture of Melania Trump overlaid with the text “Fluent in Slovenian, English, French, Serbian, and German.”
Below the image of the soon to be First Lady is an image of Michelle Obama overlaid with the text “Fluent in ghetto.”
A screenshot of Husk’s post is below via “Texoma’s” local CBS affiliate KAUZ-TV.
Talladega city manager Patrick Bryant spoke to local media about Husk’s firing, saying, “We will not tolerate that kind of conduct by any employees. We take very seriously our responsibility to treat everyone equally and equitably. We have to make sure we take steps for the community to trust us.”
Indeed, if Husk did not hesitate to share such things to his Facebook page, then why should he be trusted to hesitate before unfairly, animalistically lashing out at African-Americans he may come in contact with in the line of duty, perhaps adding them to the sickeningly long list of victims of American police shootings?
And if local authorities were to keep Husk on the payroll, then why should the community trust that other officers, who may be better at keeping their racism under cover, would not be kept on the payroll as well, perhaps putting local African-Americans in danger?
Thus, kudos to the local authorities in Talladega, Alabama, for making clear that they will not tolerate such racism.
Whether or not Husk’s Facebook profile was public prior to his firing is not disclosed by reports; however, notably, there is no public profile as of Friday morning that matches to Husk’s description, suggesting that he may have completely locked the public side of his Facebook account since his firing.
Too little, too late for him, though.
The incident with Husk is on the less immediately physically threatening side of the spectrum of hate crimes and harassment of minorities carried on by Trump supporters across the United States since the businessman’s shock election to the presidency.
